THE BODY OF THE OCEAN

11TH STREET, SURF CITY, NEW JERSEY

I kneel in her wake
Salt water, I weep
The body of the ocean
Laid out at my feet

I do not find home
Like the ocean, I run
My blood is salt water
The deluge, the flood

I am the dove
That Noah released
My land, it is gone
My hope is the sea

I planted the flowers
She wears in her crown
She held up the sky
Before it came down

Strangers surround her
Old faces are gone
The only ones left
Are the moon and the sun

My story is sky
I cannot go back
Like the dove, I keep flying
Searching for land

The riderless horse
Has to returned to the sea
I kneel in her wake
Salt water, I weep.
